Who We Are... We aim to meet the needs of all our student populations. While working with students we are striving to develop each student's talent in a way to improve their drive, focus, and ability to derive growth from their work. We hope to combine those who have high drive and abilities with stimulation, support, meaningful projects, and inspiring teachers.
How are students receiving services? The district plan for AIG students in 6th grade states students are to receive services while being “cluster grouped” within the general education classroom. Additionally, we are engaging them in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) and Project Based Learning (PBL). Students will work primarily on projects independently, but are encouraged to seek help and guidance from other adults and peers. This year we will also be doing some STEM and PBL support grouping at GPS and CIS.
When do students engage in learning? AIG students in 6th grade are encouraged to work on their projects during the morning from 8:10-8:30 (earlier if at school) as well as during the daily enrichment block (1:05-1:50). They will also receive Facilitator support on Mondays and Wednesdays during their Science blocks. Some may want to work at home. Parents are encouraged to guide the students progress. The AIG teachers will monitor and advise the student and keep him/her on a focused track. How are teachers working together? The K-6th grade AIG teachers are planning with each other to implement meaningful STEM as well as PBL. Much of the research on STEM & PBL shows higher student interest, an increase in critical thinking skills, as well as increased ability to apply skills and concepts. Overall, we feel this will be a positive impact on our students’ education.
How do we communicate about the program? We are using several approaches to communicate with parents. The student is the number one resource as we will meet with them throughout each 9 weeks. The student will keep a thumb-drive or USB jump drive with his or her project information. Additionally, we have created this Weebly Project Page, and a Remind electronic texting service. Lastly, from time to time we will send home flyers or paper hand-outs. SITES & RESOURCES:
